SADDLE; SULKY
Medium weight with lugs, bellyband and part of breeching or crupper. The panel has completely disintergrated but there was evidence that it was flocked with compressed wool fibre. The sadle is built on a metal tree and has white metal rein turrets and fittings. The remaining panel edge is reinforce with cane.
The part of a driving harness that rests on the horse's back is also known as a saddle. This lighter weight harness was suitable for using with a single horse driven to a sulky - perhaps like the vehicle hanging from the Newcastle Stable rafters. This one has a backband and tugs - the circular loops that the shafts of the vehicle rest in.
