Overview

Veterinary horse mouth gag, comprised of 11 parts: two metal side ratchets with 3 leather straps attached to each; two teeth plates; single leather strap.
Makers marks impressed on one ratchet part.

Historical information

Used for holding horses' mouths open when treatment such as teeth rasping was required.
The horse's teeth are place on the crescent-shaped plates and the mouth gently opened by moving the ratchet devices on the sides.
