STUMPWORK, BOX
2024Designed, stitched and donated by Maree Talbot, an Australian embroidery artist and tutor from Queensland. The box, an Australian design in raised embroidery technique, hand embroidered on linen with silk threads, is set on the lid of a wooden jewel box.
This box top has an exquisite design featuring a 3D numbat work in shades of brown and grey. The buttonhole worked numbat is in a landscape with West Australian flowers, kangaroo paw, Sturt pea, donkey orchid, wattle, silver princess and purple pansy orchid. Looking closely a bee, caterpillar, spider and a butterfly. To give the wildlife some base there are hillsides in the colour of the pindan soil.
Box is WA jarrah made in WA. Designed and embroidered by Maree Talbot for workshops held in WA during 2019, the Guild’s 50th anniversary. Jarrah box was made to fit the embroidered piece.
