Overview

Three hand embroidered Chinese pockets worn at abdomen as part of Chinese costume, made in 1980s.

a. Orange cotton fabric, lion’s face over a peony flower with butterflies on each side. Lion’ mouth is a slit.

b. White cotton fabric with design of a dog and a crab, slit opening in centre edged in black fabric. Embroidered

design mainly satin stitch, edges in herringbone and crossed stitches. Backing is white cotton fabric.

c. Red and black silk fabric, with design of Chinese person and a butterfly. Slit in centre edged with black fabric.

Design worked in in satin stitch. Edges in Cretan and running stitches. Backing is grey-blue cotton fabric.
