Promissory note from R. Bell for J. Baldwin

Robert Bell (1826-77) arrived per 'Success' in 1843 as an agricultural labourer to W. L. Brockman at Upper Swan. Married Maria Smith, and by 1866 was a farmer at Greenough. He was a member of the Greenough Roads Board in 1871 and secretary of the Greenough Mechanics Institute in 1874.
Joseph Baldwin (1837-?) was a soldier court martialed in Dinapore, Bihar State, India in 1860 for mutinous behavior as one of the two leaders of the Dinapore Mutiny and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was sent to WA on York in 1862 (convict no.6523) and worked at Greenough in the 1860s.
