First World War “Australian Christmas” Card from Pte. Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351

Overview

A Christmas card decorated on the front with a photograph of a kookaburra and below an emblem of “ADVANCE AUSTRALIA” with a kangaroo and some stylized wattle. Some patterning of strings of white flowers on a blue background. Inside card is a verse printed in green ink. The insert is held in place with a green ribbon.

Historical information

Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress Military Museum by a family member in 2019.
