Black and white printed postcard of the Statue de Marguerite d’Anjou in Angers, France. There are three men around the statue. Some staining on the front and back.

Historical information

Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019.

On front “38 – ANGERS – Statue de Marguerite d’Anjou -L. V. pjot / Heroine de la Guerre des Deux-Roses, fille de Rene d’Anjou et d’Elisabeth de / Lorraine, nee d Pont-d-Mousson le 23 mars 1429. En mars 1445, elie epouse a / Nancy le roi d’Angleterre, Henri VI, qu’elle voit pour la premiere fois le 28 / mai, en faisant son entrée solennelle a Londres, pour etre couronnee le 30 a West / minster. Belle et gracieuse, ardente et resolue, les Anglais ne possedaient plus rien / en France dix ans plus tard. Elle mourut a Dompierre le 20 aout 1482”.
