DECLARATION (FRAMED): SUBIACO MUNICIPALITY IN 1914
c. 1914This water coloured document illustrates what the Municipality of Subiaco looked like in 1914. The top section is elaborately decorated with 2 paintings in each corner. The left corner has a building with a tall chimney and the right has a rotunda with trees on each side. The word 'Subiaco' is printed between the two pictures which are oval in shape. Above the word 'Subiaco' is a drawing of a woman beside an atlas of the world held on a stand with 3 legs. There is a building in the background and water with a boat on it. The woman is pointing with her left arm. Underneath 'Subiaco' is a circular area surrounding the year '1914'. This section is well-decorated. Underneath, the writing is an explanation about Subiaco in 1914. This includes facts and figures about the Council, rates and taxes. There are signatures of 14 people underneath. There is the name of the Mayor, Town Clerk, and presumably the Councillors. The Councillors' names are in two columns. In between the columns is a circular seal with the words 'Subiaco Municipality' around the edge. The Subiaco Coat of Arms is also incorporated. There is a decorative border around the edge of the document and a feathery decoration on the edge of the writing.
Frame: Carved and moulded wood, glass. Sticker on reverse 'Glyde Gallery'.
Reverse: On the back of the frame are two hoods with a length of wire through each for hanging. A white card with a conservation report is attached to the lower left hand corner.
The Mayor was Joseph Duffell, Town Clerk was Chris Luth. The names listed (presumably the Councillors) are: W.W. Morrison, L.R. Roberts, A.W. Tulip, L.W.C. Brown, P.J. Hart, J.C. Irvine, J.T. Grey, L.T. Snow, J. Delamere, L.T. Boas, and W.J. Berryman. The document was archivally restored by the Fremantle Conservation Laboratory in 1984. See hard copy data sheet for transcript of the document.
