Image: A portrait of a young man in a World War I Australian Infantry Uniform, which is military green. It consists of a slouch hat, a shirt and tie, and a jacket with an Australian Infantry Forces badge on the lapel. In the bottom right hand corner is a signature in red oil paint.

Frame: The frame is a gold/brown colour, with three black lines.

Labels: On the bottom is a brass colour plastic plaque with black print reading: "SADLIER Clifford William King VC/. RANK Lieutenant/ UNIT 51st Battalion/15th Brigade, 4th Division/ DATE 24-25 April 1918/ PLACE Villers-Bretonneux, France".

Reverse: On the backing of the portrait is a red and black label reading: "FREDRIX . Serving artists for over 120 years".

In top left corner is "Title SADLIER, Artist ----/Medium-----". Below this in black is "Quality Artists Canvas Panel - Acrylic Primed for use with all mediums (also written in other languages).

In the centre is 20" x 24"/50.8 x 60.9 cm, and in bottom left corner "Made in U.S.A.". At bottom right corner is a picture of a red lion with its front paws on a capital F, under it is "since 1868". Below the label is a bar code.

Historical information

Lieutenant Clifford Sadlier, a one time resident of Subiaco, was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery during a counter attack at Villiers Bretonne on 24-25 April 1918.

Portrait previously hung in the old Subiaco Council Building, and was not rehung in the new Council Chambers.
