The Rising Sun is located in the top right-hand corner of the masthead with the newspaper’s name adjacent. “FINAL EDITION” and “FREE TO THE TROOPS” appear above the masthead and below the masthead in smaller print is the issue number, the issuer of the newspaper and the date.

Historical information

‘Table Tops’ was a free daily newspaper distributed to troops and other personnel and was produced by “AIF News”, part of the First Australian Army Press Unit. The newspaper consisted of 4 pages in the Monday to Saturday editions while the Sunday newspaper had eight (8) pages.
Editions were produced in Atherton, Queensland, for those serving in Australia while regional editions were produced in Balikpapan, Morotai in the Maluku Islands and Brunei in Borneo.for those serving overseas.

Contextual information

This newspaper was received by Kingsley Charles MOHR (WX26433), who enlisted at Guildford on 9 August 1941. A Sapper in the Australian Mechanical Equipment Company he spent 1495 days on Active Service in Australia and 625 days on Overseas Service from September 1943 – August 1944 and 10 March – 6 December 1945 before being discharged at Karrakatta in Western Australia on 24 January 1946. MOHR had lived in Denmark, Western Australia, before enlisting and returned there after the war.
