‘Merle-Anne Florist’ Card
1995A small beige memorial card from “Merle-Anne Florist” with an inscription in brown ink on behalf of the grandchildren of Kingsley Charles MOHR located within a brown frame. At the top of the card in the left-hand corner is a trademark for “TELEFLORA” corner and in the right-hand corner is a spray of leaves. The florist’s address and phone numbers are located below the florist’s name. A hand-written message in capitals fills the rest of the card.
Sapper Kingsley Charles MOHR WX26433 was born in Northam 29 August 1909. A farm labourer, he enlisted at Guildford in Western Australia on 23 June 1942. He served in the 2/1 Australian Mechanical Equipment Company, a specialist unit using earth moving machines and equipment manned by experienced operators. MOHR was trained at the School of Mechanical Earth Moving Equipment in Guildford, Western Australia, and in June 1943 was appointed “TGI Operator Excavator”. In September 1943 he served in Port Moresby before returning to Australia (Brisbane) in August 1944. In April 1945 he was in Morotai and British North Borneo in July. MOHR returned to Australia on 2 January 1946 and was discharged on 24 January having served 625 days of Active Service overseas and 1495 days in Australia. MOHR returned to Denmark, where he died at the age of 87 on 28 November 1995 and is buried in the town’s cemetery.
