PHOTOGRAPH: DIGITAL IMAGE OF REECE THOMAS NICHOLSON WITH A HORSE
Digital photo of a man with a horse. The man is Reece Thomas Nicholson and he is wearing very wide trousers in the style of the 1940's with a short sleeved shirt and the horse is heavy set and would be considered a cart horse. They are standing on cleared ground in front of several houses and the donor states that the location is stables near 1345 Hay Street, Subiaco. There is a very high pole in the centre background. The original photo has obviously been torn and repaired and appears creased and dog eared.
Reece and his family moved to Subiaco in about 1945 (after the death of his father, William Nicholson). They moved in with Reece's great aunt, Mary Kate Cochrane (nee McCarthy) at 134 Hay Street. The horse wasn't Reece's; it most likely belonged to the original owner of 134 (not the cochranes). Reece lived in the house from 1945 to about 1950, when his mum died. After his mum's death, he lived at 111 Hay Street with his wife's family.
