PHOTOGRAPH (DIGITAL): SIGN FOR BEN'S DELI ON FACE
2017Coloured photograph of sign for Ben's Deli that was uncovered when preparing the street face of the awning for a sign for a new business opening at 151 Rokeby Road. Photograph shows streetscape including shop front with original Ben's Deli sign.
Ben’s Deli was a popular speciality shop known for its milkshakes and its long-time owner, Ben Cousins. Mr Cousins survived eight years in Nazi concentration camps, being one of the few to survive three years in Auschwitz and a 600km march between camps near the end of the Second World War. After living in Germany for a couple of years after the war, Mr Cousins moved to Australia. He opened his deli at 151 Rokeby Road and was a well-known face in Subiaco for decades.
