Contextual information

The 1993 Intercontinental Cup was the pre-event to the 1994 World Championship Series in Nicaragua. It afforded the 10 competing teams—Australia, Cuba, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, USA, Mexico, Nicaragua and South Korea—the opportunity to 'scout' opponents, and for Australia to select players for the 1994 event.

Australia finished the series with a 5‒4 win-loss record, the same as Korea and Nicaragua. However, only Nicaragua progressed to the semi-finals. Final medal winners were Cuba (gold), USA (silver), Japan (bronze).

This commemorative Korean team baseball is inscribed with the signatures of the Korean team and was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Australian team Executive Officer Paul Tye.
