The 25th World Amateur Baseball Championship was held in Italy between 25th August and 6th September 1978. Eleven countries competed in the series: Australia, Netherlands, Cuba, Italy, Nicaragua, Mexico, South Korea, Belgium, USA, Japan and Canada. It was the first time an Australian team was invited to take part in the series. Games were played in Bologna, Parma and Rimini. Cuba won the series and Australia was ranked 10th.
