Conductresses On A United Double Decker Bus
Rear of double decker bus. Two conductresses standing on step in uniform - 1 in dark winter uniform, 1 in light summer uniform - both with cash & ticket bags slung from the shoulder and hanging in front. Gugeri Street and Claremont Post Office in background.
Inter-suburban private bus service established in 1931 travelled between Claremont and Perth via Victoria Avenue and Jutland Parade. It possessed the only Perth double decker bus. Norfolk pines removed from Bay View Terrace 1930s, in an attempt to introduce double decker buses. Unsuccessful as the ship carrying one was torpedoed near Suez, the other was damaged by fire in depot, 32 Gugeri Street, Claremont, behind the hotel. Buses were painted cream with a broad dark green strip containing cream writing. Conductresses' uniforms were fawn with brown piping in summer (04.113a) and dark brown in winter. Money bag was brown leather with shoulder strap and a pocket to hold oblong leather folder with tickets of varying denomination.
