Cycle Shop, Furniss Building, Bay View Terrace
c. 1930Two storey brick building with [FURNISS/BUILDING] on the pediment above the balcony. A wooden balustrading around the balcony has a sign [NEWCONSULTING/ROOMS/ WILFRED T WRIGHT/DENTAL SURGEON]. The shop on the left is Furniss' Cycle Shop. On the left wall is [SOLDERING/ BRAZING/ VULCANIZING/ MOTOR/TYRES/AND/TUBES/STOCKED]. Under the left window is [ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING/ REPAIRED]. Under the right window is [PRAMS/ RETYRED/ LAWNMOWERS / SHARPENED]. The shop on the right is a ladies' hairdressers, and a door between them leads to stairs to the rooms above. Over the laneway on the left is a life size model of a square man on a cycle. A sign underneath is [A SCARLET RUNNER CYCLE]. On the right of the building is part of a picket fence and house next door.
Mr WA Furniss originally owned the Furniss Building beginning in 1927. Original numbers were 41- 43. However, by 1936, The numbers changed so that the bottom northern shop was 41, the upstaris surgery and room were 43 and the bottom southern shop and living quarters were 45. The building was then owned by Maxime Philip Oberman. The building was demolished in 1973.
