ROOM 1.27 General Exhibits
1927Room 27 of the Old Butter Factory was constructed to be used as a cream ripening room as part of additions undertaken in 1927. It has a concrete floor supported on the vaulted ceiling to Room 17, which was designed to accommodate heavy loads.
The ceiling has a large central ridge vent, which has a curved roof eternally, but an ‘M’ shaped form internally. This has metal louvres along both the east and west sides.
On the western wall there is an original hatch through to Room16. On the southern wall there was a former door, which can be identified by repairs to the weatherboards on the opposite side of this wall. This may have been a former hoist or ladder access. At the north-western corner the steps to Rooms 24 and 26 indicate the location of an original 1918 external stair and landing which provided access to the upstairs when the building was first constructed.
The Busselton Historical Society now call this the General Exhibits room and the displays showcase items that celebrate the history of the Busselton area.
