Historical information

The steamer "Georgette" was en route to Adelaide with crew and passengers when on 1st December 1876 it was driven ashore and wrecked at Calgardup, near Margaret River. A lifeboat was launched and six lives were lost when it was smashed against the sides of the "Georgette" and then a 16 year old Grace Bussell and Sam Isaacs rode their horses into the surf to rescue the helpless men, women and children.
