Dublin Silver Mug
1875Solid Dublin Silver mug with Greek Key pattern etched design. It is marked MK which could mean that it is a Michael Keating design.
Dublin acted as a hub for the of organisation of goldsmiths and silversmiths, raising the standards of the craft over all. The tradition of Irish Silver dates back to the 13th century, when goldsmiths were first practicing in Dublin. This was the first Irish city that established a guild/company (1498) and a town mark.
Michael Keating was a famous Irish silversmith specialising in flatware who worked from 1762 to 1800.
