COPPER: LAUNDRY
c. 1930Circular copper boiler with sides sloping downwards towards the base. The upper edge is turned out to form 30mm lip.
Coppers, which were heated by wood, (although there were also electric and gas coppers), were used before washing machines were generally available. This item was removed from the laundry at 111 Stubbs Terrace, Daglish when renovations were undertaken. The house was built in 1929 for Mrs and Mrs Raines (until the late 1980s), whose son lives nearby in Stubbs Terrace. This object will become a part of the Subiaco Museum Education collection, the purpose of which is to give education groups and visitors the opportunity to touch, and perhaps use objects.
