TOY: PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER
c. 1920Owned by Miss Doris Bannear of 140 Bagot Road, Subiaco.
a) Cup - straight sides, small lip to stand on and simple handle. Open rim has a fine green line on upper edge, also a green line on upper edge of handle. Just below the upper edge is a frieze of boys and girls playing, costumes of late Victorian times, large soft bonnets and loose smocks. Figures are embossed in outline with colour roughly applied inside lines. A fine border of embossed scallop design makes the bottom of the frieze.
b) Saucer, plain in shape, rimmed with a fine green line. Same frieze of children encircles saucer and same border below it. Both cup and saucer have colours of yellow, pink, green, brown, blue and grey in the children's clothes while the outline of the figures and the border is in brown. Underside of saucer has Japanese writing and 'MADE IN JAPAN' embossed in brown.

The object has good provonance as the donor is known and the item was used by her family at their Subiaco residence.
