Painted chalkware wall hanging depicting Royal Flying Corps pilot 1917
1982Colourful, painted chalkware, three dimensional wall hanging depicting a Royal Flying Corps pilot in 1917. It shows the head of the pilot facing forwards.
The sheepskin collar of his flying jacket and a yellow scarf are seen below his face and he is wearing his leather, fur-lined flying helmet with the straps and press studs disconnected. His flying goggles are sitting on top of his head. A partly smoked cigarette protrudes from one side of his mouth. He has bushy eyebrows, light brown eyes and a moustache.
There are a few small chips which expose the white chalk underneath.
The reverse of the wall hanging is painted silver and contains a metal loop of wire for suspension. An old sale ticket is stuck to the reverse. The name of the item and maker's details are impressed into the chalk on the underneath of the chin.
