1927'Lindy: the new flying game' card game produced by Parker Brothers Inc. in 1927. The lid of the rectangular box features an image of a Ryan NYP 'Spirit of St. Louis' plane as flown by Charles Lindbergh. The plane appears on the left of the illustration flying over the ocean with a cloudy sky behind.
There is a creamy yellow border which extends down the sides of the lid. One the longer sides, there is a further image of the plane flying to the right in front of a sunrise or sunset. On the shorter sides is a blue rectangle with a central cream stripe containing the central word 'Lindy' in black letters between the words 'Improved Edition' in red.
The contents of the box includes a folded instruction booklet which has the names of the previous owners written in pencil. There are 99 cards in the set, the reverse of each depicting 'Lindy' in the centre and 4 other planes flying on a pale blue background. Vapor trails or light beams appear in a star formation. extending to each corner and top and bottom of the card.
The inside and base of the box are all natural cardboard.
This game was created to commemorate the famous 1927 first solo flight over the Atlantic by Charles Lindbergh. There are 99 cards in the set, 51 of them mileage and 48 of the move and event type. Headwinds kept you from playing the 500 mile cards. Beside obvious disasters like running out of fuel, you had to deal with ripped fabric and broken propellers.
