Swan River and dwellings can be seen in the background.
The Old Mill in South Perth is one of Perth’s best-known landmarks.
William Shenton built the flour mill in 1835 at Point Belches (now Mill Point) and it operated until 1859. At its peak, the mill produced 1500 pounds (680 kilograms) of flour per day.
The mill was not a profitable concern due to its location in relation to the major markets. Erratic winds meant that it was often unable to grind wheat.
