The original Druids existed in iron age Britain and Europe as a ruling order of priests. In 1781 the Ancient Order of Druids (AOD) was formed in England. In 1833 a group split off from this organisation to form an order more open to different social classes. It was named the United Ancient Order of Druids (UAOD) and was structured as a benefit society. The motto of the Order was “United to Assist” and their aim was stated as “Unity, Peace and Concord”. There was no Druid Order operating in Toodyay. The Northam Lodge No. 306 was founded in 1893 and was still active in 1954. Based on other Druidic items from this collection it is likely the stole was worn at the Brown Hill Lodge No. 461, near Kalgoorlie.
There is a photograph of druidic office bearers wearing stoles in a photograph on p. 6 of the program for the opening of the first Grand Lodge premises of the UOAD in Western Australia in 1925 (2003.14b)

The initials 'PA' identify the wearer as Past Arch Master. This person has already served their term as the presiding head (the Arch Druid) of a local lodge. Their role centres on mentoring, preserving traditions and providing continuity.
Acorn & Oak Leaves design on clasp: Symbolizing strength, longevity, wisdom, and fellowship—core values tied to ancient druidic tradition where the oak tree held sacred significance.
