CANVAS WORK, RUGS
Three examples of fine canvas work in a set of miniature Oriental rugs worked in half cross stitch on linen over a single thread.
(a) Daghestan Prayer rug – design is typical of the eastern part of the Caucasus region in soft harmonious colours of orange, yellow, cream, blue and green.
(b) Khotan miniature carpet, Central Asia, mid 19th C – Design Symbolic of life, plenty, and happiness.
(c) Baluchistan miniature carpet – Geometric design in red, orange cream, tan and dk blue.
All rugs have cream fringes at each end.
