1976 Australian Baseball Claxton Shield Series program - Adelaide
1976This 1976 Claxton Shield Series program is A5 in size with front and back covers printed in colour on semi-gloss paper. The front cover has a mid-blue background with hand-drawn images of a pitcher, catcher and batter. The batter's cap, left sleeve of the undershirt, and stirrups are highlighted in red. Printed in red text on the blue background is the name of the baseball series. A yellow band of colour at the top of the front cover has red text with the year date, location and name of the championships. At the bottom of the front cover is the logo of the South Australian Baseball League and the price of the program. On the back cover is an advertisement for Dulux in blue text. The inside pages are printed in black and white on matte paper. The program contains relevant information on the composition of the South Australian Baseball League, together with details of individual team members from each State, and the playing schedule. An article on the 'Jugs Story' is included, together with various advertisers.
The 1976 Claxton Shield was the 37th annual Claxton Shield Championship; an Australian baseball tournament. It was held in Adelaide, South Australia from the 8th to 17th January. States competing were Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and New South Wales. The championship was won by the host State South Australia.
This program was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Charlie Hodder, Assistant Manager of the 1976 Western Australian State team. Charlie had previously represented Western Australia as first baseman in the Claxton Shield Championships in 1963 (played in Brisbane) and 1964 (Melbourne).
