Overview

A sepia oval shaped head and shoulders photograph of an elderly woman in a square mount and framed in a decorative wooden frame which has scrolls and mushroom shapes. The woman is wearing a jacket, vest and blouse and around her neck is a large medallion on a thick cord. Her hair is swept back into a bun and she is wearing a bonnet which has tails.

Historical information

Johanna McCarthy was born in Killarney, Ireland. She came out to Australia in 1863 and married Richard Saunders Bell in Albany in 1865. She had 8 children and lived in Australia for 62 years and died at the Government Hospital in Katanning in 1925. Dr Burnside was attending to her at the time of her death.
