On the top façade of the left hand side of the building in dark lettering is ‘W.A. Newby & Co’ is ‘GENERAL AGENTS’.
Hanging from the verandah is a white sign with dark lettering which reads as follows:
‘Local Agent for
The COMMONWEALTH LIFE/(AMALGAMATED)
ASSURANCES LTD
Perth Office St. Georges Terrace
LIFE ENDOWMENT PROBATE
SPECIAL SUPPERANUATION POLICIES, ACCIDENTS,
ALL SICKNESS AND PROBATE COMBINED WITH SICKNESS’

Below the window on a board along the bottom of the building are two signs with pale yellow lettering on black background.
The first reads:
‘COME TO US FOR SPARE PARTS
WE HAVE IT, WE’LL GET IT
OR IT ISN’T MADE’

The second sign has a white and yellow petrol pump with the word ‘SHELL’ in the top disc of the pump and then ‘LOOK FOR THE YELLOW DISC’, then below this line the word ‘SHELL’ in white lettering and then below this line in yellow lettering ‘THE WELL-BALANCED SPIRIT’.

On the top façade of the right hand side of the building in dark lettering is ‘GENERAL AGENTS’.
Hanging from the verandah is a white sign with dark lettering which reads as follows:
‘AGENCY FOR FARM
H.V.McKAY SUNSHINE IMPLEMENTS’

Below the window written in white lettering on a board along the bottom of the building is ‘SHELL’ and below this line is one shell symbol, then two and then three. These symbols go from the bottom left diagonally to the top right. Below the three shell symbols in white lettering is ‘MOTOR OILS’. Below these symbols written in dark lettering on a white background is ‘GUARANTEED – FROM SEALED TANKS.’

On the back of the photograph is stamped in purple ink 'Wm.J. FORD, PHOTO ARTIST, KATANNING.'
On the back of the photograph hand written in blue ink is 'LEFT HAROLD A NEWBY NEAR CORNER OF CO-OP BROOME ST. HAD A PROPERTY WHICH IS NOW THORNERS'.
