IRON, FLAT - MRS POTS HANDLE
c. 1895 - 1939Arch shaped Bakelite handle attached to a cast metal plate the same width as the handle. There is knob attached to a spring loaded catch which locks onto the bar in the centre of the flat iron base.
The handle has a name imprinted on both sides and clips onto AK 1975.78a.
through to the mid-1900s. The iron would have been heated on a plate suspended over a open fire and later on a wood fuel oven. The Bettenay family moved to CThis iron was used by the Bettenay family to iron their cloths in the late 1800s anning mills in 1895 to work at the timber mill. Joseph was the resident carpenter for the mill.
In 1903 the family purchased Irymple Orchard in Karragullen where they lived for the first few years in a timber slab hut. The family continue to run the orchard.
The Enterprise Manufacturing Company was formed in Philadelphia, U.S.A., in 1864 and produced a variety of cast iron hardware and kitchen products. The company was purchased and absorbed by Silex co in 1956.
