A sepia photograph of a group of officials standing on a raised platform and on the ground a crowd of people dressed in coats and hats. There are flags from different countries flying on each corner of the platform. The photograph is mounted on light green cardboard.
Both the Western Australian Government and Katanning District contributed to the cost of building the Katanning Hospital, the cost was £13,000. The official opening was in October 1925. The stone was laid by the Hon. A McCallum M.L.A.
On the back of the photograph handwritten in black ink is "Laying Foundation Stone at Katanning Hospital 1924 I think"
Based on information from the the Australian Army Museum of Western Australia the flag at the top of the picture (which is quarter obscured), is the flag of the 7th War Loan Honour. It has the Australian flag in the top left corner, the star indicates that Katanning raised double its quota and each bar represents that it raised over 25% of its quota.
Based on information from the Australian Army Museum of Western Australia, this is the only picture in which a community is flying the 7th War Loan Honour flag at an event, which was the laying of the Foundation stone for the Katanning Hospital.
