MACHINE LACE, HANDKERCHIEF
Machine made lace on net. Machine made cotton lace imitating handmade Buckinghamshire lace.
Machine made 2 twist silk net. A silk gimp around the design has been put in by hand as have the picot edges.
A beautiful design probably Brussels classic. The net is very strong with few breaks. It has been strengthened by using entredeux.
First machine made net was in 1790s. Queen Elizabeth I was offered machine made net stockings but she refused to promote this as would put hand knitters out of business. By 1810 nice net was made by machine.
