Statement of significance

HIGH
Historic: The brick press is associated with the development of the industrialisation of the brickmaking industry in the City of Armadale from 1897 through to today. It is also associated with a move in 1913/14 by the Labor Scadden Government to create state industrial entities to supplement what was believed to be an underdeveloped economy. The new entities included the Byford State Brickworks, State Implement Works and the State Saw Mill. In 1949/50 the state brickworks was expanded to a second site in Armadale where this brick press was used.
