WWI Certificate of appreciation - Grant

Overview

WWI Certificate of appreciation presented to I. H. or J.H. Grant by the townspeople of Hastings and St Leonards in Sussex.
The outside frame is made from natural timber. The interior is a paper or card certificate decorated with flags and shields of the allied nations. At the top are the flags of Japan, America, France, United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy and Serbia, surrounding a central armorial shield or British Coat of Arms featuring three lions. Underneath the inscription are more symbols of heraldry.
At the bottom, it has a ribbon bar representing the three WWI service medals commonly awarded to British men and women. - the 1914 or 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
The certificate was produced by the Hastings Municipal School of Art.

Historical information

Such certificates would have been issued to all of those who served in the Great War from the Hastings - St Leonards area of Sussex in England.
As the initials of the recipient are difficult to determine and no Christian names are given, it isn't possible to be sure who the certificate was awarded to.
