Milbourne Burgess Clark - business card holder and portrait
c. 1907Business card holder made from crocodile leather with silver corners and central shield with monogram 'MBC' for owner, Milbourne Burgess Clark.
Inside the holder is a cut down Real Photo Post Card showing Milbourne Burgess Clark in his Army uniform. He is wearing his greatcoat and slouch hat.
Milbourne Burgess Clark was born in London. He enlisted in Melbourne, aged 40, on 17 July 1915 with B Company, 29th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force.
He embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on 10 November 1915.
He was transferred to the 1st ANZAC Corps School, British Expeditionary Force in France in November 1916 where he served until the war ended.
He returned to Australia aboard the SS Port Denison on 25 March 1919.

Each silver corner is impressed with several symbols and letters (hallmarks).
'.925' in an oval, indicating Sterling Silver

An 'h' in a square, indicating made in 1907
The maker's mark 'D&I', referring to Danziger and Isaacs, a jewellery company that imported and sold items from two locations - one in Birmingham and the other in London.
The silver shield in the centre also has the letters 'BPDC' which stands for Boots Pure Drug Company, a pharmacy chain still operating in the UK; the same three hallmarks and the engraved initials 'MBC'.
