Overview

B/W Prints. (a) Image of a young fair-haired lad, looking self conscious in winter uniform of dark pants and tie, worn with long-sleeved shirt with [PMG] above both pocket flaps. He is standing beside a street tree and in the background is a large house with gabled roof and partly enclosed verandah. (b) A slightly older Kevin Clarke is standing beside a backyard shed. He is wearing summer uniform of shorts and PMG shirt with rolled sleeves, worn with long socks and dark shoes. (c ) K. Clarke in winter PMG uniform, astride a bike with light, carrier etc. On the left is a Hills hoist and in the background are outbuildings, building materials stacked against a close picket fence, and the adjoining house.

Historical information

PMG refers to Post Master General, which was the precursor to Australia Post. Kevin Clarke was born at Devlonleigh Hospital. Lived in Cottelsoe, Claremont and Mosman Park. Joined the Claremont Post Office at age 17 originally as a telegram boy and then worked his way up to Senior Post Master. He was the youngest Senior Post Master in the Metro area up until 1975 when Australia Post took over. Kevin Clarke worked at the Claremont Post Office from 1964-1983.
