1934
Overview

Sent by Jim Dennis to his wife Lillian for her birthday on 17th October 1934.

To the right you can just see a body of water in front of which is two trees with woooden benches next to them. The grass framed dirt path leads off into the left midground where there is lush greenery in the background.

Above and below the image is two rectangular segements which have a brown background. The top rectangle contains four flowers in vivid colours (from left to right: red, pink, yellow and blue) and above the words 'BIRTHDAY Greetings'. The brown decorative type is surrounded by a scalloped white frame. The bottom rectangle contains a white scroll with a poem typed in a slanted font which reads:

'There is a joy in the simple things, / Our pleasures come on golden wings, / So laugh the fleeting moments by, / 'Tis easier to smile than sigh: / And may each Birthday hour be spent, / In happiness and sweet content.'

The reverse has a cursive message written horizontally in black ink across the full surface. It reads: 'To my Wife on her Birthday 17th Oct 1934. / I give this Birthday card today / To greet you in the usual way, / You know my wish that life may be filled with hapiness / for thee / United yet and happy to your Birthday still it finds us / And we have never wished to cut the loving link that binds us, / May all the joy you've had so far an the the wealth + / pleasure / Continue as long as life shall last and add a bit more / leisure. / To my dear wife / The best in life. / From your Husband true, / Who thinks the world of you. / From your only Jim - xxxxx'
