PHOTOGRAPH: THE DRAWING ROOM OF C. YATES' (OR YEATES) HOUSE, ROKEBY ROAD

Overview

A sepia photograph of the drawing room (also known as sitting room, living room, parlour) of C. Yates' (or Yeates') house. The interior room is ornately furnished with cane furniture, a piano, incidental tables and items of furniture with many framed pictures, plants and fans on the wall. The mantelpiece is covered with ornaments, vases and framed photographs and the wooden table in the centre of the room is covered with books, vases and bowls. A decorated screen stands in front of the fireplace. The floor is covered with a large and a smaller rug and a wooden bead curtain hangs in the doorway.

Historical information

The museum holds the negative. WPOD first has Charles S.S. Yeates listed in Rokeby Road in 1900, at which time houses were unnumbered. WPOD later included his address as 441 Rokeby Road. Yeates lived there until approximately 1942.
