William Charles Maidment and guests on his 70th Birthday
1930Black and white image of twelve adults - seven standing and five seated in front. Several large trees and a vintage car are seen in the background. A list of names has been written on the verso.
The Maidments first arrived in Capel from South Australia in 1896. In 1907 William bought 'Old Capel Farm' from W.J. Roberts and renamed it 'Paringa'. He and his wife Bessie lived at Paringa for many years, along with their children Alexander, Eileen and Ronald. The Maidments grew fruit and ran flocks of sheep and dairy cows. However, William's primary interest was horses, and he supplied mounts for the Indian Army (Krantz, V. & Chase, D. 1995. "Just a Horse Ride Away: A History of the Shire of Capel and its People", p. 161).
