Boxed Red Cross spoons, ANZAC Day 1918
c. 1918Boxed set of six electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) spoons with 'Red Cross' engraved in the bowls and the date '25.4.18' on the handles.
On the back of the bowls are the initials 'EP', a three leaf clover mark and 'NS'.
The hinged box is made from a blue textured, leather like material and has a metal clasp connecting the top and bottom. There is a diagonal line in the upper right and lower left corners.
The inside is lined with a shiny cream coloured material and has a central crossbar covered in dark blue velvet with notches to hold the individual spoons.
Little is known about this item, as there are no maker's marks on either the spoons or the inside of the box, indicating which jeweller made or sold it.
It was purchased in Australia and the date engraved on it is ANZAC Day, so it is possible it was made in Australia as a commemorative souvenir.
