The Army and Navy Needle Book - 3

German made needle storage booklet entitled 'The Army and Navy Needle Book'. It opens horizontally to house rows of nickel-plated hand sewing needles wrapped in protective packets or threaded loose into a paper holder.
The front cover features a colourful illustration of the the battleship USS Iowa (BB-4) with one large mast and two pale blue and red funnels with smoke billowing out, powering through rough seas. The ocean is green in colour with white caps.
There is a decorative gold and fine black line border around the central image, outside of which is a blue border.
The phrase 'The Army and Navy Needle Book' is printed with red capitals and black lower case letters across the top. In the centre of the bottom, the word 'Iowa' appears. It is also printed on the hull of the ship. The word 'GERMANY' is written vertically in red against the right hand edge of the illustration.
There are five packets of different gauge needles on the left of the open booklet. The paper is dark grey and the labels are cream and gold. The labels of the first two packets are missing, but the On the right, there is a folded piece of dark grey paper with two raised areas through which a single loose needle is threaded. The inside background is bright orange coloured with a cream decorative border. In the centre of the left side at the top, the words 'Silver Steel' are written in orange letters in a cream rectangular box, while the words 'Hardened in Oil' appear in the same position on the lower side.
The back cover features an American bald eagle with widespread golden wings clutching an olive branch and arrows. It rests on a shield stylised with the red, white, and blue stripes of the United States flag against a background of white stars on pale blue. This sits atop what appears to be the earth with the ouline of land masses visible. The word 'GERMANY' is printed in dark letters along the lower left edge.
