Overview

This 20 hp compound wound DC generator, Serial No. R37442, with an extended shaft, pulley and CI combined bedplate was installed in the Wongan Hills Power Station and supplied 220 volts DC. The motor manufactured by the British Thomson Houston Company of Rugby, England was installed and operated in the Wongan Hills Power Station as a 220v DC dynamo to supply the two wire distribution system. The current motor was used for the same purpose in the First Light display in the World of Energy exhibition to simulate the generation of electricity for a street light. It is typical of the type of generator found in small country towns prior to the extension of the South West Integrated Grid System.
