John McDermott (1835-1925) was an engine driver convicted of Burglary and sent to the colony on the "Runnymede" in 1856. He settled at Greenough where he took up the profession of wheelwright. He married Jane Connolly and fathered 10 children.

This is one of only two notes written by John McDermott held in the Maley Mill & Store Archives. Although described as semi-literate, this note proves otherwise.
