On the back of the photograph on a white label in black typed lettering is "Katanning Historical Society memorable Photos Pioneer Day was held at the Kimberly Lodge and Mr Ivan Thomas gave a very interesting address the early days of football in Katanning. Teams would travel from Katanning to Broomehill, Tambellup, Woodanilling & Kojonup by train. Many supporters would also go along for the trip and it was a fun day out. On arrival at the ground it was not uncommon for players to have to clear the ground of sticks and stones before play could start. The talk was appreciated by all the guests and a pleasant day was had by all. Photo:1987.223 People present are Mr. Clem Cronin, Mr. Ross Anderson, Mr. Ken Harris and Mr. Ivan Thomas.
