Australian Federation-era hallmarked silver brooch

Overview

Australian Federation-era hallmarked sterling silver brooch. It features a voided, stippled map of Australia with state borders delineated embossed with the word 'AUSTRALIA' inside a circular decorative, belt-buckle frame.
The reverse has a series of maker's marks and hallmarks which include a passant lion (indicating 92.5 percent silver). The marks are small and worn, so difficult to determine.
There is a pin attached to the centre of the reverse of the map. It rotates, but doesn't seem to have the clasp to secure it.

Historical information

This brooch is likely to relate to the Federation of Australia on 1 January 1901, when six separate British colonies—New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia—united to form the Commonwealth of Australia under a single national constitution.
