WWI era children's cloth book - 'Playing at Soldiers'
c. 1915WWI era children's cloth book - 'Playing at Soldiers'. It comprises twelve colourful illustrations of children playing at various military and associated roles.
The cover shows a group of children in different uniforms; some holding flags and others with one arm raised. The uniforms and flags represent several allied countries during Woirld War One.
The central ten pictures relate to specific roles - aviators, bandsmen, reconnoitring party, cavalry, trench diggers, artillery, transport service, transport ships, Red Cross staff and Indian scouts.
The back cover shows a group of children dressed as sailors in the colours of red, white and blue. One has a red white and blue flag (French), another is raising a rifle, another his hat, while the rest have one arm in the air in victory.
There is nothing on the book to indicate where it was made and it would apperar to be quite rare.
