William Hammond Smith Memorial Plaque

c. 1920
Overview

Memorial plaque issued to the next-of-kin of William Hammond Smith.
It is circular, made from cast bronze and bears an image of “Britannia” holding a laurel wreath and a trident, with a lion at her feet.
A much smaller lion is below the bigger one, biting the German Imperial eagle.
There is a dolphin on each side of 'Britannia' representing Britain's sea power.
On the right, within a rectangular border, is the name of the person commemorated.
The reverse of the plaque has no markings of inscriptions, but shows signs of having been previously mounted. There is a raised silver area of solder in the centre and discoloration around the edges.
