DISTRICT HOSPITAL, VANCOUVER STREET

c. 1904
Overview

Pen & Ink sketch of the front portico of the Albany District Hospital, Vancouver St. From style of old wood fence, possibly early 20th century. A cane chair & a canvas deck chair for patients' rest also indicate the date. A Norfolk Pine tree is central in the picture, located in front of the portico, which is on the LH side of the sketch. Beyond the fence, and running parallel with it, is another timber slatted fence with a capping rail. This second fence is interrupted with several masonery pillars supporting ornamental masonery spheres. These pillars could be gate supports, the gates leading into Vancouver Street. Beyond the second fence is a third fence, which appears to be mounted at a higher level than the District Hospital fences. Beyond this fence are trees.
