Overview

A black and white formal portrait of Mr Henry James (1841-1913) and Mrs Sarah Hannah (nee Mead) (1846-1907) Twine.
He is standing on the left of Sarah, who is seated.
Both are in formal dress of that day.
Sarah is wearing a full pale print dress. Henry is wearing a double breasted mid-length coat, and trousers, with white shirt and tie.
A book is on Sarah's lap.
A painted scene window is to Mr Twine's left. He is sporting a beard.

Historical information

Henry and Sarah went on to have 11 children - 6 boys & 5 girls. 9 of the children survived into adulthood.
The eldest boy, Henry James, died, aged 12, in 1872.
The fourth daughter, Laura Ann, died aged 14, in 1895.

A mirror image copy of this image is held in the Shire of Toodyay collection as 2002.1858
